Pitt Shuts Out CMU in the Snow

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Mar. 31, 2011

It had been snowing all afternoon, and had no signs of letting up by the time the annual Forbes Road Rivalry game between the Pittsburgh Panthers and Carnegie Mellon Tartans began, but this did not stop either team as it was a hard fought game by both sides from start to finish.

Freshman goalie Drew Miller stopped all 13 shots he faced, leading to his first career shut out in MCLA play.  The freshman defenseman duo of Stephen Gill and Max Carlson, as well as strong play by defensive midfielders Nick Ruff and Elliot Clakely were vital to the shut down defense and responsible for a majority of the successful clears.

Fr. Max Carlson also set a personal record with 10 ground balls in the contest, and is the second Panther to get double digit ground balls in a single game on the season.

Offensively, the Panthers were lead by Sophomore Attackman Tyler Novotny (4G, 1A), Junior Midfielder Pat Bursch (2G, 2A), and Freshman Attackman Alex Powell (2G)

With this win, the Panthers are now 5-2 on the season, with 6 games remaining on the schedule.  All additional stats from this game can be found at http://mcla.us/scores/games/9573/

This weekend, The panthers square up in a must win game versus Ohio University, this Saturday (4/2) at the Cost Center. Game time is set for 2 PM.  Admission is $5 for adults, and $2 for children, students, and any local lacrosse player (high school or younger).  You may have to pay for parking ($5-10) at the cost center, and seating is limited (bring a chair!)
