PITT Defeats Defending D2 National Champion Davenport 12-6Oct. 10, 2011 On Sunday, October 9th, the Defending MCLA Division 2 National Champion Davenport University visited the University of Pittsburgh for a fall exhibition game. In a strong, physical game played by both sides, the PITT Panthers were able to outrun Davenport en route to a 12-6 victory. Davenport was able to get the first goal of the game early in the First quarter, but senior goalie Chris Gorham lead the PITT Panther defense to quickly adapt to the Davenport offense, and shut them down for the remainder of the first Quarter. This and lengthy possession by the offense helped to lead PITT into halftime with a 6-1 lead. The second half upped the pace of the game as the transition play from both teams was strong. The game concluded with back-and-forth scoring from both teams in the final two quarters as the game ended with a final score of 12-6, and the PITT Panther's second victory of the fall. The Panther Offense was lead by junior Tyler Novotny (6G, 1A) and sophomore Alex Powell (3G, 1A), with strong performances by all three midfield lines in running the offense and dominating the possession for most of the game. The twins of Colin (1G, 1A) and Bryan (1A) Peck were instrumental in running the offense as well coordination a bulk of the transition game for PITT, while senior defensive middie Elliot Clakely (7GB) and sophomore long-stick middie Paul Razgaitus (3GB) helped lock down the defense. This week, the Panthers get back to work in practice as they prepare to split the roster into two separate teams for the annual fall West Virginia Tournament in Morgantown, WV. Games will be played by both teams versus Miami University (OH), the University of Kentucky, Towson University (NCLL), and West Virginia University. HAIL TO PITT!
