Pitt Cruises to Victory Over La Roche, 8-3Jan. 29, 2012 Pittsburgh, P.A.— Junior captain Tyler Novotny led the Panthers with 5 goals and an assist on Saturday night in the 8-3 victory over the La Roche College Redhawks. The two teams started off the night with a controlled 6v6 practice on both ends of the field. After running through some offensive and defensive sets, the teams played four quarters of a running clock scrimmage. Pitt came out with an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Panthers outscored the Redhawks in the first three quarters 1-0, 3-1, 3-1, and tied the fourth 1-1. Novotny led all scorers with 6 points, senior captain Nick Ruff added 2 goals, and junior midfielder Mike Mannion finished with 1G. “It was nice to start off with an early lead. Last year we often went down by a couple goals early and had to play from behind. One of our objectives this season is to come out strong and put in a few goals right off the bat so that we don’t have to play catch up,” commented Ruff(2G). The Panthers will look to rest up this weekend before traveling to Greensburg for scrimmages against St. Vincent’s College (NCAA DIII) and Seton Hill College (NCAA DII) on February 11th. Hail to PITT!
