Panthers Hire New Assistant Coach

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Feb. 23, 2012

Last week the team bid a temporary farewell to Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator Ben Petchel, who took a leave of absence in order to pursue a career in photography and professional lacrosse in Australia. Petchel will remain in Australia for the remainder of the season, but is expected to return to the coaching staff next fall.

To fill the personal and professional void left by Petchel, the Men’s Lacrosse program has brought in Kevin Kostyk, graduate Law Student at the University of Pittsburgh. Kostyk will be working to help strengthen and develop midfield and face-off players, and brings along a strong knowledge of the game . As an Assistant coach, Kostyk will provide a level of NCAA lacrosse experience that will help foster the program’s overall development on and off the field.

“The son of Walter Kostyk, Kevin is currently pursuing a JD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law as well as assisting with PYLAX and Trilogy Lacrosse in Pittsburgh.  Prior to Pitt, Kevin was a Political Science major at Alfred University and spent 4 years competing in the Empire 8 NCAA Divison 3.  Before Alfred University, Kevin played lacrosse at Seneca High School in Tabernacle, NJ, where he helped lead his team to Division titles in 2004, 2005 and 2006.”
