Panthers Tie With #22 GeorgiaMar. 2, 2012 Alpharetta, GA - The Pitt Panthers finished the first game of their southern debut against #22 ranked Georgia with a 6-6 draw. The game was called in the third quarter after tornado warnings and severe storms forced teams to retreat to the buses. The Panthers started the game with two quick goals from Tyler Novotny, the first assisted by Alex Powell. Georgia got on the board with a goal of their own, but Pitt midfielder Chad Kinslow responded by spinning past the defense for a score, making it 3-1. The Bulldogs then took advantage of a Pitt offsides penalty to score again. With less than a minute left in the first, midfielder Brian Faber ripped one past the UGA goalie to make it 4-2 heading into the second quarter. Georgia came out with two goals in the second to tie the score at 4, but Alex Powell scooped a ground ball and buried it in the net to put Pitt back on top. Chad Kinslow extended the lead with another goal, but Georgia also found the net before the half. The teams broke for halftime with the storm approaching. Thunder and lightning steadily picked up during halftime, but officials allowed teams to return for the third quarter. The Bulldogs won the first faceoff and retained possession long enough to find the back of the net, tying the game at 6-6. At this point the officials opted to suspend the contest, ending the contest in a tie.
