Pitt Regains the Lead in Win Over TennesseeMar. 3, 2012 Marietta, GA –Pittsburgh came from behind and outscored Tennessee 3-2 in the fourth quarter on the way to victory over the Volunteers 6-5 at Sprayberry HS Saturday night. The fourth quarter against the Vols was the first time that the Panthers had trailed in the second half all season. Captains Tyler Novotny and Nick Ruff both scored twice, while Joe Grmusa and Alex Powell each added a goal to give Pitt the W. The Panthers improved to 3-0-1 as they handed Tennessee their fifth loss of the season. The Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Vols never trailed by more than a score after bringing it back to 2-1. Pitt had a hard time finding the back of the net, shooting around 13%. Credit is due to J. Blazer for keeping Tennessee in the game. The Volunteer keeper led the defense with impressive saves and directed traffic while the Vols held off up to a 3 man up Pitt offense. Spectators saw most of the action and excitement in the fourth quarter. Teams entered the final fourth of the game locked at 4-4, but Tennessee came out and scored to make it 5-4. The tying score for Pitt came from senior midfielder Nick Ruff, then Tyler Novotny punched in the last one for the win. Tennessee possessed the ball for the last 100 seconds of the game, but the Panther defense was able to hold off the attack until time expired. Note: After Pitt vs. Tennessee, Georgia took the field against Alabama. The Bulldogs scraped by with an 8-7 victory. H2P
