Boston, MA—The Panthers recorded another “W” last night with a victory over the Huskies of Northeastern University at Parsons Field. After falling behind 0-2 in the first quarter, Pitt finished the game on top, 10-6.

Northeastern took an early lead in the game with two unanswered goals, until Matt Wolfe finally notched one for the Panthers, leaving 1:01 to play in the first quarter.

With the defense stepping up, the Panther offense went to work in the second quarter. Novotny dropped two goals, and Joe Grmusa and Matt Wolfe each added another to round out the half 5-3.

The Huskies struck quickly in the second half, but were quickly answered by hometown hero Conor “Spike” NugentMatt Wolfe finished off his hat trick and the Panthers finished the quarter in the lead 8-5.

Novotny added another goal on a man up opportunity to extend the Panther lead 9-5 early in the 4th quarter. Defenseman Max Carlson made a stunning clear and dished the rock to Novotny, who stuck his 4th of the game to put the score at 10-6. The Panther defense was stifling in the 4th quarter, holding the Huskies scoreless for the last 8 minutes of the game. Goalie Chris Gorham stood on his head the entire game registering 18 saves, many of which were from point blank range. “The defense was all on the same page. It was a good win against a ranked opponent, but we need to stay focused for BC tonight,” said Carlson.

This victory brings the Panthers to 9-1 on the season. Tonight Pitt plays Boston College at Alumni Stadium at 7pm. Come out and support your Panthers! As always, follow @PittPanthersLax for goal by goal updates!
