Season Recap

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly May. 20, 2012

The Panthers’ season came to a close on Monday, May 14th after a loss to the UCSB Gauchos, 13-9, in the MCLA National tournament in Greenville, SC. Although the Pitt’s players emerged dejected and defeated, the 2012 season can not be considered a failure. This was the first time that the Panthers have made an appearance in the national tournament in the history of the MCLA. Team goals of winning a CCLA and MCLA championship will drive operations in the 2013 season.

“It was a great experience for the program and for the guys,” commented Head Coach and CCLA Coach of the Year Sean Buzzard. “Though we lost the game tonight, I feel that it is something for the program to build upon and we look forward to being back here on an annual basis.”

This year Pitt graduates eight seniors. On defense, the Panthers will lose heavy stick checks provided by Eric O’Neill, and the stonewall performances of captain and goalkeeper Chris Gorham.

At the midfield, Pitt will lose Nick Ruff, Elliott Clakeley, Mike Mannion, Brian Faber, Sam Uthgennant, and Chad Kinslow.

Nick Ruff, a team captain, progressed from a D middie and faceoff specialist to a first line midfielder and an aggressive scoring threat in his three years as a Panther. Ruff was on track to lead the first Team Midfield for the MCLA All-Flow squad, but a late season stylistic decision prevented him from receiving that award.

Elliott Clakeley only played for the Panthers for two years, but managed to amass an impressive 94 ground balls in his career. In addition to being incredibly good looking, Elliott brought a love for community service and an extremely southern attitude to the program.

Mike Mannion also only participated in the program for two years, but contributed bullet-like speed and was able to draw defensive slides with swift cuts on the offensive end.

Brian Faber capped off his career as the President of Panther Lacrosse during his final year of eligibility. Faber’s leadership between the lines and knowledge of the game are eclipsed only by his accomplishments as President of the lacrosse program.

Sam Uthgennant also played for only two years, but contributed as a defensive midfielder, especially his senior year. Sam boasted impeccable flow and an all-business attitude with his facial hair.

Chad Kinslow ended his senior season abruptly after being sidelined by injuries. However, the midfielder contributed offensively and with bone-jarring hits.

Thank you to our seniors, fans, parents, and friends for your support this season. We will build on our success and keep working to bring home an MCLA Championship.

Hail to Pitt!
