Perry and Sypula To ResignJun. 3, 2012 Pittsburgh, PA—Panthers lacrosse is regretfully announcing the resignation of CCLA Co-Head Coach of the Year Alex Perry and Assistant Coach Andrew Stypula. Both coaches have been crucial to the recent success and growth of the Lacrosse program at the University of Pittsburgh. Perry joined Panthers Lacrosse in 2010 as an assistant coach, but was promoted to Co-Head Coach after just one season with the team. Perry’s experience in establishing the lacrosse program at the University of Oklahoma was fundamental in many of the operations conducted at Pitt in the past two years. In addition to organizational expertise, Perry brought defensive minded leadership to the Panthers. With Perry on staff, the Panthers have gone 23-6 since 2010, including an appearance at the National Tournament in 2012. Although the team was reluctant to let him go after the season, Coach Perry has since relocated to St. Louis with his wife Amber. Perry will continue to pursue his career and love for the game of lacrosse in the business world. The second coaching change comes with the resignation of Assistant Coach and Defensive Coorinator Andrew Stypula. Styp played for two years at the United States Air Force Academy before transferring to The University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Pitt Lacrosse team for the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and was elected captain in his senior season. He is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and joined the coaching staff at the end of his playing career. “Styp is a good coach and a great friend,” commented Junior Phil Spagnola. “I’m really going to miss how he got the guys fired up on the sideline and during time-outs,” added a teary-eyed Spagnola. It is a well-known fact that Spags and Styp crusaded deep into the postseason sporting some of the finest moustaches ever seen on a Pitt Panther. We want to bid farewell, good luck, and a massive THANK YOU to both of our departing coaches. Your instruction and knowledge of the game were paramount to our success this season. Hail to PITT!
