Gauchos Bounce Back With 16-7 Win Over WashingtonFeb. 18, 2012
UCSB outshot the Huskies 41-17. The Gauchos are averaging 32.8 shots per game in five games this season. "We've taken 40 or more shots in a game twice so far," commented UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey. "As we get further along we want to start converting on more of them and get to 50% on shooting." "We need to keep shooting and keep working for good shots and when we get more adept at running our offense and become better shooters our whole scheme is really going to pay off," added Ramsey. UCSB junior Katie Mitchell (Lafayette, CA) led all scorers with 4 goals and 4 assists during limited action and 9 Gauchos got in on the scoring with either goals or assists. Jeni Centner had 8 saves for UCSB to get the win. Centner and Megan Dawe (Martinez, CA) tied for high ground ball honors with 3 apiece. The Gauchos improved to 4-1 while Washington dropped to 0-2. Up next for UCSB are 3rd ranked University of Colorado, Boulder. The Buffalos are a perfect 3-0 on the season with wins over unranked Oregon, 8th ranked Cal Poly SLO and 14th ranked Pittsburgh. Seventh ranked UCSB takes on Colorado at 12 Noon on Sunday in the final game of the Shootout for both teams.
