Santa Clara Topples UCSB 20-12
The Broncos outshot UCSB 34-16 and the lone bright spot in the game for the Gauchos was converting on 12 of 16 shooting. Santa Clara beat UCSB players to all but 7 ground balls and won the draw control battle 20-14. Senior Megan Dawe (Martinez, CA) led UCSB in goal scoring with 4 and junior Katie Mitchell (Lafayette) led in points with 2 goals and 3 assists. Santa Clara junior Mayan Zeitlen (Scottsdale, AZ) led all scorers with 5 goals and 4 assists. UCSB dropped to 11-2 overall while Santa Clara improved to 9-7. Next up for both teams is the WWLL Championship Tournament at UCSB April 21st - 22nd. Seeds for the three division 16 team tournament will be released on Monday night. The Gauchos are looking at a possible #1 seed depsite the loss but should receive at least a #2 seed. Eight teams will play in the WWLL Division One bracket, 4 teams in WWLL Division Two and 4 teams in the WWLL B Division.

Santa Clara, CA - Santa Clara jumped out to an 8-3 lead early and never looked back against visiting UCSB. The top ranked Gauchos made a push at the end of the first half just to get to within 3 goals at 10-7 but could not get it going often enough in the second half. Fourteenth ranked Santa Clara had the ball most of the game and controlled the midfield play on draws and in transition.
