UCSB Women's Lacrosse Ranked 5th in The NationFeb. 27, 2013
The three losses came at the hands of #1 ranked Colorado State (5-0 overall), #3 Michigan (5-1) and #4 Florida (6-1) in a tough stretch of games against five pre-season Top 20 teams mid February. The Gauchos were 2-3 in those contests with a 14-12 win over 8th ranked BYU, a 7-9 loss to top ranked Colorado State, an 8-9 loss to 4th ranked Florida, a 10-11 loss to 3rd ranked Michigan followed by the 16-7 win over then 11th ranked UCLA. "That's about right for a ranking after those results," commented UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey after seeing the poll. "However, we're already better this week than last week and starting to recognize more improvement so we know those results were a 'that was then and this is now' situation as we aspire to finish the season on top." The overall record of teams the Gauchos have played so far this season is 36-20 (.643), showing a solid strength of schedule. UCSB, currently in first place in WWLL Central, takes to the road this weekend to play University of San Diego and the club from San Diego State University in Saturday and Sunday contests, respectively. The Toreros are 5-2 overall and in first place in WWLL South at 1-0. The Aztecs are 2-2 overall and in second place in WWLL South. "Playing like a first place team and playing well against another first place team in our league region set-up is always a goal of ours," said Ramsey. "This weekend will be a good challenge for us."
