Record Number of Prospects for SBCC Women's LacrosseJul. 22, 2010
All prospects and returners are listed on the Team Roster on this website. It will be revised once roster spots are finalized. One of the team advisors, UCSB Head Coach Paul Ramsey, thinks the large incoming class is a result of the growth of high school lacrosse throughout California and the limited admission opportunities at California four year schools. Nineteen of the 23 prospects are from California high schools. "Most of these students looked at both SBCC and UCSB from the beginning of the recruiting process," commented Ramsey. "They are now all UCSB women's lacrosse recruits just by virtue of their proximity to us and cooperation between our programs but most of them were looking at us from the get go." The SBCC women's lacrosse club has an open try-out process just like most SBCC teams. However, the lacrosse club also takes beginners and teaches them how to play. Fall Ball starts with a week of beginner lessons August 24 - 27. Try-outs officially start August 31st. Practices are 12 Noon to 2:00pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on the turf at UCSB. Fall Ball is at UCSB due to field space considerations at SBCC. See the Try-Out Information page on this website for more information. Ramsey says there's a target head count of 30 players for the start of try-outs so the team is still recruiting. "We expect some attrition and would like to have a 24 player roster for the regular season during the spring semester," added Ramsey. "But if somehow all 30 stick or we get more than that then we will have A & B teams."
